Sentinel ICBM
WASHINGTON, DC – A new nuclear missile is coming, a gigantic intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) called the Sentinel. It marks the largest cultural shift in 60 years in the land leg of the Air Force’s nuclear missile mission.
The Sentinel will bring 21st-century connectivity for all the service members who secure, maintain, and operate the missile. The changes could improve the efficiency and quality of life on the bases.
The $96 billion Sentinel overhaul involves 450 silos across five states, their control centers, three nuclear missile bases, and several other testing facilities. Nuclear missile fields are located in North Dakota, Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, and Wyoming.
The 91st Strategic Missile Wing is responsible for 150 ICBM Minuteman missiles dispersed over an area of about 8,500 square miles surrounding Minot Air Force Base.
