ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management’s interim director, Charlene Briner, says the department is on track to launch the state’s marijuana industry in 2025.
Max Zappia is the office’s new chief regulatory officer. He started Wednesday.
Briner said Zappia has worked on issues related to cannabis banking since 2018 at the Department of Commerce. Zappia helped develop regulatory guidance for Minnesota financial institutions for hemp banking.
As for finding a new director, Briner said the search continues.
“I would say that I am here at least through mid-February,” Briner said. “I think that we are continuing to have conversations about the qualities, the attributes, the expertise for a permanent director.”
Briner said they have a skilled team of professionals that are doing a lot of work behind the scenes to move the process forward.
