ST. PAUL – The Department of Natural Resources is paying Minnesotans for their pine cones as part of their plan to keep state forests healthy and strong.
The Forest Nursery says black spruce tree pine cones are in “especially high demand,” and are buying cones from Minnesotans to reseed over 5,000 acres of forests.
Currently, the DNR is paying between $20-$150 a bushel, recommending picking pine cones directly off the tree, as fallen cones and seeds are likely not viable.
