WAUBUN, Minn. (KFGO) – A Grand Rapids, Minnesota man was arrested after a woman was hit by an SUV at the junction of state highways 59 and 113 in Waubun, Minn.
Witnesses reported that they heard a woman screaming and say a black SUV headed south on Highway 59 around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. 35-year-old Spence Bilden was stopped by a Becker County deputy, who noticed front-end damage and a headlight out. Bilden told the deputy he had hit a deer.
Mahnomen County Sheriff Josh Guenther says Bilden showed signs of impairment during the traffic stop and failed field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test indicated that his blood alcohol level was .033, below Minnesota’s legal limit of .08, but a blood test was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Bilden was arrested for criminal vehicular operation and leaving the scene of an accident.
