BELTRAMI COUNTY, MINN. (KFGO) – There was a bright flash in the sky and a sonic boom across a very large area of southern Beltrami County and other adjacent counties of northwestern Minnesota last night. The question is… what was it?:
Beltrami County Emergency Management Director Chris Muller said the blast and the accompanying bright blue/white flash in the sky prompted a number of calls to the Beltrami County Emergency Communications Center from people reporting the incredibly loud explosion.
Muller lives east of Bemidji and said it shook windows, and walls rattled the dishes at his home and scared his dog so bad it almost broke down a door trying to get inside.
Not knowing what it was, deputies and police officers searched the area, including power substations and power pole transformers but nothing was found.
Muller said they can only speculate that it may have been a meteor, and today (Tues.), Beltrami County authorities will follow up with other agencies to try to find out what may have happened. He said unless there is some type of significant evidence there’s nothing more that can be done.
The flash and blast can be seen and heard on KFGO’s Facebook page.
