WATERTOWN, S.D. (KFGO/KWAT) – Two children were taken to a Twin Cities burn unit after being rescued from a house fire in Watertown Wednesday morning.
According to Watertown Fire Rescue, firefighters responded to the blaze at 525 3rd Street SW around 12:30 a.m. where they found four people outside the house. Three children, ages 13, seven, and five, were rescued by an adult who was also in the house when the fire started.
Lt. Adam Heinrich said flames were showing from the front and rear of the house when they arrived. They were able to knock the fire down, but it rekindled and crews were forced to go in a second time.
The adult and children were taken to the hospital by ambulance. According to a GoFundMe page, the two youngest were eventually taken to a burn unit in Minneapolis.
Heinrich said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
