
REYNOLDS, N.D. (KFGO) – Former University of North Dakota women’s basketball standout Katie Richards died in a rollover crash near Reynolds in Traill County.
Richards was widely regarded as one of the greatest players to play at UND, helping the team reach four NCAA tournaments, win two North Central Conference crowns, and win three straight national championships during her four years, from 1996 through 2000.
Richards, a Hope native, had a standout prep career where she was named Miss Basketball North Dakota. Most recently, Richards was an instructor at Mayville State University.
The crash was reported just after midnight Thursday. According to the State Patrol, the vehicle left the road, went into the air, and rolled. Richards died at the scene.
The State Patrol is investigating the crash.
Richards was 45.
