MINOT, N.D. (KFGO) – Court documents in the case of a Minot woman accused of using anti-freeze to poison her long-time boyfriend say she expected to inherit more than $30 million upon his death. 47-year-old Ina Thea Kenoyer was arrested after a more than month-long investigation into the death of 51-year-old Steven Riley.
According to Minot police, an ambulance was called to the home of Riley and Kenoyer on Sept. 4. After Riley died at a Bismarck hospital the following day, Riley’s friends and family reported their concerns that Kenoyer had poisoned Riley. The criminal complaint says Kenoyer believed Riley was going to leave her after he received the inheritance.
A search of their home uncovered a Windex bottle containing what was suspected to be anti-freeze. A beer bottle and plastic mug, both suspected of containing anti-freeze, were located in the garage. Kenoyer claimed that Riley had been drinking heavily and suffered heat stroke the previous day.
An autopsy found that Riley had not been drinking.
