FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO) – A fire caused extensive damage to a Fergus Falls home and displaced three residents. The fire was reported at about 10:30 Monday morning.
Fire Chief Ryan Muchow said the original report came from caretakers who noticed smoke coming from a roof vent while working outside at the neighboring home. The occupants were evacuated as firefighters and police arrived on the scene.
Muchow said smoke was visible from the exterior roof vent and soffit. Fire crews used thermal imaging cameras to look for hot spots in the ceiling of the home. Crews pulled the ceiling in two rooms to expose the burning area and extinguish the fire.
The fire started in the attic and it took some time to remove smoldering insulation. The area where the fire originated had fire damage to the rafters and the electrical wiring. The rest of the home had smoke damage. No injuries were reported.
Damage was estimated at $60,000. Muchow says that the fire is believed to be unintentional, caused by an electrical wire in the attic.
