DULUTH, Minn. – City leaders, workers, and residents in Duluth told Attorney General Keith Ellison’s staff their opinions of two proposed healthcare mergers.
The mergers are Duluth-based Essentia with central-Wisconsin-based Marshfield Clinic, and St. Luke’s in Duluth combining with Aspirus, which serves north-central Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Mayor Emily Larson said she supports the St. Luke’s merger to benefit patients and workers in Duluth, but is neutral on Essentia due to concern over Marshfield’s financial position.
A nurse said, during her 12 years at Essentia, she’s seen consolidation and services reduced, resulting in fewer choices for patients.
