SABIN, Minn. (KFGO) – Two sugar beet trucks collided Sunday morning after the driver of one of the trucks fell asleep and hit the other.
Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting says the crash happened around 10 a.m. on 70th St. S near 130th Ave., south of Sabin.
The 41-year-old driver of the first truck told emergency personnel he had fallen asleep and sideswiped the second truck before going off the road and into the ditch, where his truck hit a tree and caught fire. He escaped with only minor injuries with the help of a passing driver.
The second truck was also not drive-able after the crash. Its driver, an 81-year-old Fargo man, was uninjured.
