LINO LAKES, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) – Officials are investigating a suspected homicide at the state’s correctional facility in Lino Lakes Thursday morning.
A spokesman said a 63-year-old man, who was serving a nearly 20-year sentence, was found unresponsive in his cell. MCF-Lino Lakes prison medical staff and outside emergency responders tried to save the man, but he died a short time later.
A 42-year old man serving a life sentence in the facility is the lone suspect.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine manner and cause of death. The identity of the victim will be released after family is notified.
The prison has been placed on modified lockdown status while the investigation is completed. Modified lockdown means prisoners are restricted to their living units.
No further information, including the name of the suspect, has been released.
