ROBBINSDALE, Minn. – There will likely be another push for the “Keeping Nurses at the Bedside Act” next legislative session. Minnesota Nurses Association President Mary Turner says a 12% increase in mistakes at hospitals and clinics shows a staffing increase is needed.
Turner said nobody likes to hear ratios in Minnesota but something needs to be done because health care cannot be run without doctors and nurses.
Turner said “The Keeping Nurses at the Bedside Act” would have allowed nurse managers to be part of staffing discussions at hospitals and clinics.
It failed to pass the legislature following opposition by Mayo Clinic and the Minnesota Hospital Association.
