MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minnesota hockey fans are mourning the loss of one of the all-time greats.
Family members confirmed Monday that Henry Boucha died at the age of 72.
Boucha burst on the scene in 1969 when he led Warroad High School to the state hockey tournament championship game.
He was a member of the US hockey team that won the silver medal at the 1972 Olympics, and played one season for the North Stars before an eye injury cut his career short.
Boucha was Ojibwe, and was a life-long activist for Native American causes. He wrote a book about being one of three Native American men to play in the NHL. One of the others is his cousin, T.J. Oshie.
