FARGO (KFGO) – Paul Braun, communications director for the Diocese of Fargo tells KFGO News that a statue at St. Mary’s Cathedral in downtown Fargo has been stolen.
Braun says the statue was taken from the rectory yard outside the cathedral in the early morning hours of September 10. Church surveillance footage video indicates a man drove up in a car around 2 a.m., grabbed the Mary statue, loaded it in the vehicle, and drove off going west. It is valued at about $900.
This isn’t the first time the church has experienced theft and vandalism. This past January, the “Christ in Death” statue was damaged by vandals and two years ago, another statue of Jesus was spray-painted black.
Braun says more details of the theft should be released later. Police are investigating.
