ST. PAUL, Minn. – The newly-established Minnesota State Emblems Redesign Commission is meeting for the second time Tuesday to develop a new design for the official state seal and the official state flag.
Commission Chair Luis Fitch says the redesign is a priority, as most Minnesotans have abandoned their current emblems.
“They feel that the design is not accurately and respectfully reflecting Minnesota history, resources, and the diverse cultural communities,” Fitch said.
Fitch hopes to create a design that stands out and “unifies us versus dividing us.”
The Commission is expected to certify the designs in a report to the legislature and Gov. Walz by Jan. 1, 2024.
