(KFGO/KNFL) The Fargo Little League, representing North Dakota, made history this afternoon in Whitestown, IN.
Fargo defeated its South Dakota counterparts from Sioux Falls 9-7 in the Little League Midwest Region title game this afternoon. Fargo’s only loss in the tournament was to Sioux Falls on Wednesday by a 7-3 score. They are the first Little League team from North Dakota to qualify for the Little League World Series
Team North Dakota started fast scoring three runs in the top of the first, highlighted on a two-run triple from William Korbl. They added a run in the second inning for a 4-0 lead. Sioux Falls evened the game with four runs in the last of the third, all scoring with two out.
Reese Evanson and Blaise Ostrom had the big hits in Fargo’s five-run fifth innings. Evenson tripled in two runs to give Fargo the lead back, and Ostrom finished the outburst with a two-run single. Sioux Falls against responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 9-7 game.
Fargo will open up play in Williamsport, PA on August 18 versus the winner of next Thursday’s game with Southwest and Mid-Atlantic champions.
The Little League World Series runs through August 27.
