FARGO (KFGO) – In the wake of the deadly July 14 shootout in south Fargo, City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn says more needs to be discovered about the shooter – Mohamed Barakat – and the events that led up to the shooting.
“We knew about this individual two years ago. I had no knowledge of that,” Piepkorn said. “We need to find out – why were we not alerted? What was his job? Where was his money coming from? Who dropped the ball? If you have a terrorist with propane tanks in his house, and he doesn’t have a grill, why in the world did you not take some kind of action? Who didn’t take action? Was it the U.S. Attorney? Was it the Attorney General? Was it our own police department?”
Piepkorn said what jumped out to him was that the FBI was in Fargo, at Barakat’s apartment right away.
He said federal law enforcement needs to answer a lot of questions.
