Neil Nelson, 86, Walcott, ND died Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Neil Rudolph Nelson was born November 3, 1936, in Fargo, ND to Rudy and Beryl (Boyd) Nelson. He grew up on the family farm near Davenport, ND. He attended country school and graduated from Kindred High School in 1954.
Neil married Anne Bjore on June 7, 1958, in Horace, ND. They lived the next 6 years in rural Davenport where he farmed, milked cows, and owned a bulk milk route with his father and brother. In 1964, they moved to rural Fargo and bought the family farm where Anne grew up. They stayed there for the next 40 years raising their children and farming. In 2005, they moved to rural Walcott.
Neil enjoyed gardening, restoring old horse drawn machinery, driving his Belgians, and Saturday breakfast in Walcott. He also loved spending time with kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, friends, and extended family. He took his team of Belgians and covered wagon and drove them 320 miles from Abercrombie to Bismarck in the ND Centennial wagon train ride. He was involved in Fort Ransom Sodbuster Association, Horace Lions club, the Horace Lutheran Cemetery and Horace Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his children, Brian (Jackie) Nelson, Colorado, Mike (Lisa) Nelson, Walcott, ND and Lori (Ruben) Noriega, Walcott; grandchildren, Kaila (Dustin) Nelson, Tyson (Tessa) Nelson, Joslin (Erick) Brager, Andrea (Jeff) Fuchs, Shad Korbel, Jena Korbel; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Odin, Nash, Sawyer, Bailey, Brody, Grace, Anna, Jayden, Brock, Brekkin and the many other kids that called him Grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anne; son, Scott; sisters, Jean, Betty, and Lora; brothers, Jack and Hank.
Visitation: Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023 from 5 to 6:30 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at Horace Lutheran Church, Horace, ND.
Funeral: Friday, Aug. 4 at 11 AM at Horace Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior.
Burial: Horace Lutheran Cemetery.
