FARIBAULT, Minn. – A southern Minnesota business is accused of illegally selling cannabis plants on the day recreational use and growing became legal in the state.
Police in Faribault responded to complaints about Total Tobacco having a tent sale Tuesday and located 22 suspected marijuana plants. Officers say the plants seized were labeled by strain and some had THC levels that exceeded the amount allowed for industrial hemp.
No arrests were made.
Retail sales of recreational cannabis are not expected to begin until 2025.
Faribault Police Chief John Sherwin says his department will support businesses engaged in legal sales once the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management is established.
