FARGO (KFGO) – The body of Fargo Police Officer Jake Wallin is now enroute to Pequot Lakes, Minnesota north of Brainerd for his funeral service and burial in nearby Nisswa.
A Sanford Health AirMed helicopter flew overhead as a Minnesota State trooper led the procession of 10 Fargo Police squad cars and three buses with Police Department employees down 25th Street past the scene of last Friday’s shooting.
Dozens of people were at the scene of the shooting as the procession went by to pay tribute to Wallin.
“It’s a sad incident. It happens, but it’s very sad,” Tim Braaten said. “I wish it would have been later in the day because there would have been thousands more (people).”
Wallin’s funeral service will be held at 10:30 this morning at the high school in Pequot Lakes followed by a private burial service with military honors in nearby Nisswa.
Damian Barglof with Stockton Towing said 16 people from his crew came to pay their respects. He said it was important to them to be there as part of a community that is supporting law enforcement during this time.
“Civilians, first responders, everybody in the community coming together as one, that’s why we’re out here,” Barglof said. “That’s why we wanted to make sure we were out here and have everybody show the love for Officer Wallin.”
The funeral will be carried live on KFGO.
A public celebration of life is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at SCHEELS Arena in Fargo.
