RED WING, Minn. (KFGO) – The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office says they are still searching for three people in the Vermillion River south of the Twin Cities.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, three people were swimming in the river Monday during a family gathering when they started to struggle in the water.
A man fishing from shore jumped in to help and rescued a woman before going back in to help the others. Neither the man, nor the two swimmers – another man and a girl – resurfaced and others called 911.
Initial reports were three men missing in the Mississippi River.
The area the group was swimming in was three feet deep, but drops sharply to around nine feet deep.
Goodhue County Sheriff’s Water Patrol and Dive Team, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Wildlife Fish and Game, Minnesota DNR, Northstar Search and Rescue, and Red Wing Fire Department are all involved in the search.
