ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – A Minneapolis man has pleaded guilty to a series of carjackings in 2021.
According to U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger, Shevirio Childs-Young, 20, was part of an armed carjacking ring that targeted Uber and Lyft drivers.
Members of the carjacking ring ordered rides and, when the drivers arrived, they were forced to hand over their phones and wallets at gunpoint.
Childs-Young and others forced the victims to unlock their phones and give them passwords. Once they had access, the carjackers stole money from the victims by transferring it to other accounts.
In some cases, the victims were hit, pistol-whipped, and threatened with murder.
Childs-Young pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to use, carry, and brandish firearms during and in relation to crimes of violence.
