ST. PAUL, Minn. – Recent significant rainfall in Minnesota is not enough to pull Minnesota out of its developing drought.
Kenny Blumenfeld with the State Climatology Office says just like it takes time to get into drought, it can take a while to get out of it.
“We’d need this kind of event every week or so until we’ve made up those deficits and that would take probably a month, two months, or more of regular precipitation before we could say, alright, we’ve beaten this thing.”
On the positive side, Blumenfeld says the Climate Prediction Center’s precipitation forecast indicates the next two weeks “look favorable for at least holding our ground, if not making up some ground.” He says the long-term forecast gives July a better-than-average chance of being wet.
