MINNEAPOLIS – Tony Bouza, the colorful and controversial Minneapolis police chief for most of the 1980s, has died at the age of 94 after a short illness.
Bouza pushed for a 911 emergency number and advocated for aggressive tactics such as decoys, stings and stakeouts, while at the same time working to remove officers who regularly used excessive force and announcing the department would respect the rights of Black citizens.
He continued living in Minneapolis following his retirement.
