DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (KFGO/KDLR) – The Devils Lake School Board voted Tuesday night to table, rather than accept, Superintendent Matt Bakke’s resignation.
School Board member Sheri Olson reminded Bakke during the meeting that he is already under contract with the school district for the upcoming school year.
Several board members expressed concern about difficulty the board could face in finding a suitable replacement for Bakke at this point.
Bakke said his decision to leave the district is the best one for him and his family, but he doesn’t want to leave the school district in a bad situation for them. Bakke said he is willing to give the board some leeway on when his resignation would take effect.
After tabling Bakke’s resignation the school board voted to advertise for a new superintendent.
Bakke has been the superintendent in Devils Lake since July of 2020, and is leaving for a job with the Grand Forks School District.
