FARGO (KFGO/PNS) – North Dakota’s biggest county is ushering in some changes for the 2024 election.
Local leaders say the move is largely based on feedback from voters in the county’s pursuit to make civic engagement an easier process. The Cass County Commission has approved the changes, which include adding more vote centers and expanding hours for early voting.
Elections administrator Craig Steingaard says they heard voters’ concerns about issues like longer lines in the 2022 elections. He says they want voters to know they take their critiques seriously.
Steingaard says it’s important to be aware of what voters are thinking, how easy was it for people to vote, and how is the county going to be able to adjust and then adapt to what the voter population actually is saying.
For the expanded early voting, the days have now been adjusted to run from Tuesday through Saturday, instead of Monday through Friday in previous elections. And early voting sites will now be open a little later – until 7 on weeknights.
Officials say that should accommodate people with busy schedules.
