Mac Schneider
FARGO (KFGO/PRAIRIE PUBLIC) – U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland held a virtual meeting with U.S. Attorneys, including Attorney Mac Schneider from North Dakota, and the department’s law enforcement from around the nation yesterday to discuss the department’s summer anti-crime strategy, namely gun-related violence.
“The message was very clear – as we enter the summer season, there’s the potential to see an uptick in violent crime,” Schneider said. “We really want to have a coordinated federal response, interagency response, working very closely with our state, local, and North Dakota tribal partners to make sure that we’re focused on keeping the country safe, reducing gun violence. In the District of North Dakota, that means going after people who are illegally in possession of guns.”
Schneider said gun violence is plaguing the country.
“Any gun violence is too much,” Schneider said. “So, we want to be a reliable federal partner in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, working with FBI, ATF, DEA. It’s really focusing on that violent crime.”
Schneider said the state is also fortunate to have strong relationships with Tribal law enforcement and leadership to increase safety in Indian Country.
