With the news that the Fargo-Moorhead area Taco John’s are soon to be closed (so long 13th, 32nd, University….and so on), I thought it would be a good idea to give you the inside scoop on how to make their famous Potato Oles at home!
The recipe is basically creating your own special seasoning salt and then figuring out the best way to prepare them. Tips below.
For the season salt
- 4 tsp Lawry’s seasoning salt
- 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 2 tsp Paprika
- 1 tsp Cumin
- Crispy Crown style tater tots (freezer section)
Mix all of these together and then pick one of the options below.
AIR FRYER
No need to pre-heat, cook for 5 minutes at 400 degrees. Shake the basket and add the flavoring, shake again and add more flavoring. Another 6 minutes at 400 degrees. Add another minute if you like them really crispy. If you want more Potato Ole seasoning, add before serving.
TRADITIONAL OVEN
Pre-heat to 425 degrees. Arrange tots on a baking pan. Brush on a light layer of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and then sprinkle the Potato Ole seasoning onto the tots. Bake for 17 minutes. Remove from pan and sprinkle additional seasoning on to taste.
Lastly, I hope that because our local Taco John’s are gone doesn’t mean we won’t be enjoying this annual Christmas commercial!
