Update on Paddling Events Postponed or Cancelled Due to Fast Moving Water
Even though the Red River is within its banks, it is still moving fast. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources interprets the current rate of flow as high so intermediate and experienced paddlers should use extra caution and new or inexperienced paddlers should not attempt paddling in these conditions. We want all skill levels to be able to participate safely in these fun community activities. Thank you for your patience and understanding! We too wish conditions were different, so we didn’t have to postpone/cancel.
Stay tuned for the opening date of the Canoe and Kayak Rentals at Hjemkomst Landing in partnership with Moorhead Parks and Recreation. Eventually we will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:00-8:00 p.m., Saturdays 11:00a.m.-6:00 p.m., and Sundays 12:00-6:00 p.m. Cost to rent a canoe or kayak is $10/hour/vessel.

Race the Red has been postponed to our back up date of July 17. There are three flag races so you can choose your distance between 1.5, 3.5, or 6 miles. Participants will paddle up river to a designated turnaround point, grab a prize (this year a phone dry bag), and return down river to the finish. All races begin and end at the south boat ramp at Dike East. Early bird fee is $20/person. A limited number of canoes, single kayaks, and tandem kayaks are available to rent for $15.
