ST. PAUL, Minn. – The head of the Minnesota Retailers Association predicts the new $0.50 fee on delivery purchases will create a “new level of complexity” for small businesses.
President Bruce Nustad said there isn’t true alignment with today’s sales tax code and it may be confusing to retailers.
“So, as an example – clothing. Retailers have to figure out which clothing is taxable, which clothing is not taxable,” Nustad said. “This delivery fee would apply to any clothing order. So, there isn’t continuity, necessarily.”
Nustad argues that something that is currently tax exempt shouldn’t be subject to the new fee.
Minnesotans will be required to pay a $0.50 fee on deliveries of $100 dollars or more on July 1, 2024.
