ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota’s largest brewery is celebrating a legal victory over a North Carolina-based business that was using the same name.
Summit Brewing Company began its trademark battle with Summit Seltzer of Charlotte in 2021, but the company agreed this month to rebrand as The Bevery. The owner of Summit Seltzer says her family could no longer afford the legal fees in the case and decided to drop the name.
Summit is the top brewery in Minnesota based on its 118,000 barrels produced in 2021. Schell’s is number two with nearly 100,000 barrels and Surly ranked third with just over 70,000 barrels.
