FORT RICE, N.D. (KFGO) – Five people were injured, one seriously, in a multiple-motorcycle crash on Highway 1806 south of Bismarck just before noon on Monday.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the lead rider in a group of motorcycles traveling southbound noticed another motorcycle stopped and signaling a left turn into a Fort Rice bar.
The lead rider swerved to avoid hitting the turning bike. The second rider then side-swiped the lead rider causing him to fall off his motorcycle. The third rider hit the lead rider’s bike and was thrown from his motorcycle. A pickup that most of the group had just passed slowed and swerved to avoid hitting the crashed bikes, and a fourth rider in the group which had not yet passed the pickup crashed into the back of it.
Three of the riders were transported to area hospitals for their injuries. Two others were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The rider who was thrown from his bike had serious but not life threatening injuries. None of the riders were wearing helmets.
The crash is still under investigation.
