BISMARCK (KFGO) – The North Dakota Legislature passed mobile driver’s licenses back in 2021.
Driver’s License Division Director Brad Schaffer provided an update about where they are with the rollout of mobile licenses. Schaffer says North Dakota has been working with other states.
“We are in constant contact with other states and have been to many conferences in the past few years. With mobile driver’s licenses, things change so rapidly that we have to be in communication. There have been a lot of states that have changed course, we don’t want to do that. We think our best starting point is to partner with Apple and Google, and from there evolve into something else,” said Schaffer.
Schaffer says you will still receive a physical driver’s license card right away, and adds it will take time for everyone to acknowledge mobile driver’s licenses.
