ST. PAUL, Minn. – It appears that top Democrats at the Minnesota Legislature could give in to Mayo Clinic’s demand that the health care giant be exempted from requirements of a nurse staffing bill.
Mayo threatened to send planned Minnesota projects to other states, but House Speaker Melissa Hortman told “4 News Sunday Morning” she believes there will be a compromise that will treat Mayo differently than other hospitals.
“Mayo is an asset that is known all over the world. There are not other hospitals in the state that have kings and princes flying in…. And Mayo has a very good acuity tool that they use,” Hortman said.
The Minnesota Hospital Association says making an exception only for Mayo will hurt other hospitals that are experiencing the worst financial operating conditions in decades.
