FARGO (KFGO) – A Fargo man charged in the stabbing death of a Wisconsin man who had recently moved to Fargo has been sentenced to 55 years in prison.
39-year-old George Ortiz was sentenced after he changed his plea to guilty Tues. afternoon. He was charged in the October murder of 32-year-old Phillip Bergquist near the Red River in downtown Fargo. His throat was slit.
Another man is charged with accomplice to murder while a third man, who notified police about the death, faces a charge of tampering with evidence. Their cases are still pending.
Bergquist was the grandson of long-time Fargo TV weatherman Dewey Bergquist, who died in 1996.
