BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO/KNOX) – North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum signed a bill Friday aimed at helping what he called a “child care crisis” in the state.
The bill would invest millions to support child care services, and try to help increase workforce participation.
“House Bill 1540 addresses the current needs of our child care system – access, affordability and quality,” primary sponsor, Republican Rep. Emily O’Brien of Grand Forks, said. “This package supports low-income families, employers, providers, state employees, quality-based programs and outcomes.”
The bill devotes a $22 million investment in the child care assistance program to serve more working families.
Another $15 million will go toward enhanced child care assistance program payments for infant and toddler care.
