ST. PAUL – The Minnesota House, running up against its not-after-midnight rule, paused debate on a bill to legalize recreational marijuana and will continue later Tuesday morning to a vote:
Republicans proposed raising the age limit to 25, Maple Grove Representative Kristin Robbins pointing to dangers for younger users of depression, anxiety, psychosis, and even suicide. Robins said, “I have a mom who regularly e-mails me because this was what happened to her son, and she is begging us not to do this.”
But Burnsville Representative Jessica Hanson warns increasing the age limit will keep the black market alive for those under 25. He said, “If we’re really serious about making sure that we’re protecting our kids through a regulated and legal safe market, then that means that we pass this bill today.”
