WEST FARGO (KFGO) – West Fargo police officers have started testing body cameras as the City works toward using the cameras department-wide.
The department said the cameras are meant to enhance policing best practices and reinforce community trust and transparency.
“Our officers serve the community of West Fargo with great pride and professionalism,” Chief Denis Otterness said. “Providing our officers with technology and tools like body worn cameras supports their great work and strengthens our relationships with the public.”
During the testing phase, Motorola Solution’s WatchGuard system will be used. The department said that system is compatible with their current in-car and interview room camera systems, making it cost-effective. A final selection of which system to use will be determined after the testing phase.
Police expect to have 80 body cameras by the end of this year, enough for every officer in the department.
A civilian position will be added to manage the program once it is ready to implement.
