FARGO (KFGO) – A much-needed reconstruction project begins Monday morning on 32nd Avenue S. in Fargo.
The project between S. University Drive and 32nd Street will be done in two segments. The first segment will be from 22nd Street to 32nd Street and is scheduled to be finished this fall.
Dakota Underground is the contractor for the reconstruction. Project Manager Jared Heller said work on Segment 1 will begin between 22nd and 25th Streets and move to the west from there.
“As everyone’s aware, this road has deteriorated over the years. So, it’ll be a complete removal of the existing pavement surface,” Heller said. “We’ll be installing a large diameter sewer system, and we’ll be doing some water main replacement.”
Heller said the initial design did not have a turn lane on the north side of the avenue at 25th Street, but that was added back in. There will also be strategic islands for pedestrian crossings.
Detours will take drivers around the closure.
Heller said he understands these projects can be frustrating, but is asking the public and business owners for their patience as his crew works on the busy avenue. He also asks that drivers be cautious.
“It is a work zone. There will be a lot of orange set up,” Heller said. “Drive safe so everyone can go home at night, including the traveling public and our workers.”
Heller said the next closure will be at 25th Street and can be expected sometime in May.
The first of the two-segment, multi-year 32nd Avenue South Reconstruction Project will be completed this fall.
Segment 2 begins next year and is scheduled to be finished in 2025.
