GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Fifth year forward and two-time captain Mark Senden has signed a professional tryout (PTO) with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League, the team announced on Wednesday.
The Checkers, who serve as the AHL affiliate for the Florida Panthers, also have former North Dakota defenseman Matt Kiersted on the roster. Senden will wear No. 72 with the club.
This past season, Senden exploded for a career-high in goals (7), points (17) and shots on goal (67) while closing his five-year career with 26 goals and 73 points in 170 games. He was the first player in program history to wear a letter in three straight seasons, serving as the team captain over the final two.
During his career, the Medina, Minn., native was a two-time nominee for the NCHC’s Defensive Forward of the Year and was named the league’s sportsmanship award winner in 2021-22 after captaining the Fighting Hawks to their third straight Penrose Cup.
