ST. PAUL – A bill approved by the Minnesota House Transportation committee calls for more competitive wages for state troopers and conservation officers.
State Patrol Troopers Association President Mike LeDoux says a 2020 Legislative Auditor’s Report detailed the large wage disparity between troopers and other officers.
The Office of Legislative Affairs report indicated that the top base wage that could be earned by state troopers in 2019 was substantially less than the top base wage available to police officers in most cities reviewed.
Ledoux says legislative action taken during the 2020 special session helped mitigate the disparity of a starting wage. But he says the State Patrol has been unable to fill 63 open positions funded by the legislature.
