FARGO, N.D. (NDSU Athletics)– The North Dakota State men’s basketball team outscored St. Thomas by 12 in the second half to pull away for a 73-64 victory inside the Scheels Center on Thursday night.
The Bison improved to 10-7 in The Summit League, taking over sole possession of third place in the league standings. St. Thomas fell to 18-12 overall and 9-8 in the league.
NDSU junior Grant Nelson registered his seventh straight double-double, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Boden Skunberg also recorded a double-double – his second of the season – with 16 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
Freshman guard Damari Wheeler-Thomas added 13 points for the Bison.
St. Thomas set a Scheels Center / Bison Sports Arena record with 46 three-point attempts in the game. The Tommies made 12-of-46 for 26 percent from beyond the arc. NDSU outshot St. Thomas overall, 48 percent to 36 percent.
There were 14 lead changes and five ties in the contest. NDSU never led by more than four points until a three-point play by Skunberg put the Bison up 51-44 with 8:39 remaining.
NDSU led 55-49 before stringing together a 7-0 run in the span of 1:40 to take control of the game.
The Bison outscored the Tommies 45-33 in the second half.
The Bison will host Western Illinois in the regular season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
