FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – Xcel Energy has been going over the weather forecast with line workers to be prepared for the winter storm.
Xcel Energy Principal Manager Tony Grindberg said it’s important to not react to severe weather, but be proactive. He said ice is not expected in this forecast but there’s expected to be a lot of wind.
“The highest probability are power outages – high winds in the trees and branches falling on the lines and knocking down the lines,” Grindberg said. “The transformers that go out are all part of the watchlist.”
Crews are on-call and ready to move out if the power goes out. They’re stationed in the Fargo-Moorhead, Grand Forks, and Minot areas and cover a large portion of North Dakota and Northwest Minnesota.
Grindberg said as long as it’s safe when an outage occurs, crews will be on-site and aware of it – often within moments of it happening.
