BISMARCK, N.D. – (KFGO/PRAIRIE PUBLIC) – A new North Dakota opioid task force is planning two listening sessions – one in eastern North Dakota, one in the west – to gather input on how the state should invest its share of money from a settlement with opioid manufacturers.
Gov. Burgum issued an executive order, creating the Opioid Settlement and Advisory Committee.
Lt. Gov. Tammy Miller chairs the Committee. She said the state has already received $9.2 million from the settlement – and could receive up to $70 million.
Miller said the opioid abuse problem in North Dakota is very serious.
“If you look at the data on the number of overdoses, attempts, and overdose deaths, it is very, very critical in our state,” Miller said.
Miller said the two listening sessions will also have a “virtual” component, to allow stakeholders from across the state to give their thoughts.
