GRAND MARAIS, Minn. – A Wisconsin man is the second person convicted for his role in the dismembering of a shooting victim and disposing of his remains in Lake Superior.
A Cook County jury found Robert West of Douglas County guilty of being an accessory after the fact to the 2021 murder of Ricky Balsimo, and interference with a dead body.
Prosecutors said Balsimo was killed in St. Paul and his body was taken to Superior where West assisted in dismembering his body and putting it in buckets and a tote. West then made arrangements for Tommi Hintz of Duluth to transport the remains to Grand Portage and they were dumped into Lake Superior from a boat.
Hintz already pleaded guilty in the case.
