ST. PAUL, Minn. – A bill that legalizes recreational cannabis is halfway through the committee process after passage Wednesday in the Minnesota House Workforce Development committee.
St. Louis County Republican Natalie Zeleznikar voiced concern about marijuana use by workers in long-term care facilities and hospitals and how the state is going to measure some of these things equitably and keep people safe.
“There are plenty of legal substances that will make you impaired and you should not be giving people care, operating heavy machinery, or driving. And it could be as simple as Benadryl, or it could be a prescription drug,” bill sponsor, Rep. Zack Stephenson of Coon Rapids, said.
Stephenson said nothing prevents employers from prohibiting their workers or caregivers from using cannabis.
The House Human Services Policy committee will be the eighth stop for the bill.
