ST. PAUL, Minn. – A bill that would designate a 7-mile stretch of Highway 5 in Chanhassen as the “Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway” is headed to the Minnesota Senate floor.
It cleared a key committee Monday with most concerns addressed with one notable exception – memorial highway signs are normally brown.
Waconia Republican Sen. Julia Coleman was dressed in Prince’s favorite color hoping the sign would be purple.
“I don’t think great damage will be done to transportation or traffic safety, and I think it would be weird for it to not be purple, quite honestly,” Senate Transportation Committee Chair Democratic Sen. Scott Dibble of Minneapolis said.
