WILLMAR, Minn. (KFGO) – A Sioux Falls, South Dakota man will not stand trial for the 1974 murder of Mae Herman of Willmar.
81-year-old Algene Vossen has been committed to a memory care unit for the rest of his life.
Willmar Police Chief Jim Felt says he had hoped Vossen would be convicted of Herman’s murder saying this isn’t the resolution Herman’s family was hoping for.
DNA evidence connected Vossen to the scene of Herman’s stabbing death in July 2020. His attorney says Vossen is no longer able to care for himself.
