FARGO (Prairie Public KFGO) – Commercial airports in North Dakota are seeing passenger activity rebound closer to pre-pandemic levels. North Dakota Aeronautics Commission Director Kyle Wanner says the eight major airports are all seeing the restoration.
“Airports throughout the state have been doing really well. Every commercial service airport in the state has had better enplanement numbers this year than last year,” Wanner said. “So that’s good news for the entire state.”
Wanner says there’s a lot to be encouraged about, but there are also areas that have yet to recover
“There are things we’d like to see to really get back to where we could say we’ve had a complete full recovery of the COVID-19 pandemic and where we could see additional growth occur. We’d like to see additional business travel come back. We haven’t seen a full recovery in that area yet – business and government travel for that matter,” he said.
Wanner says airlines have a role as well. He says there is a need for more flights and more capacity in
the system serving North Dakota.
Officials at Fargo’s Hector International Airport say 2022 was the airport’s second busiest year ever. A new report from the Airport Authority shows 455,512 passengers boarded flights in Fargo last year – a 14% increase over figures from 2021.
